When I was 18 years old, I was a walking encyclopedia, so you couldn’t teach me anything. At 21, after having read some personal development books, I realized that I knew nothing. From reading those books, I realized that people thought differently than what I learned. It was strange and exciting.
The people that you surround yourself with have a significant impact on your outlook on life. If most people you know are in the same boat, talking about similar struggles, and topics, you tend to believe that the world is one way, and there is not much else you can do.
Since the age of 21, I have been seeking influence from people outside of my social circle. I have attended seminars, read many books, and today with the internet, accessing information is easier than ever. The decision to keep seeking influence from others has had a significant impact on my life. I have made many mistakes and have had to get up from them bruised and battered, but I kept going. Today, I feel like my life is just getting started, and it’s exciting.
If you are feeling down or in a slump, realize that there is something that you can do. The decision to seek information outside of your circle of influence is a start. Once you start introducing new information regularly, your outlook starts to change. Then, at some point, your beliefs change, and that is when things start to happen.
